Wieso wird eine CD von 1997 bei den Ancient Classix besprochen? Ich habe auch sehr lange hin und her überlegt, ob ich diese geniale Gothic Doom Death Scheibe reviewen soll und letztendlich habe ich mich dafür entschieden, aus dem einfachen Grund, weil garantiert keine Sau die italienischen SERENADES kennt. Dieses Album darf man einfach nicht versäumen, da die darauf enthaltene Melancholie einfach unglaublich ist. Es gibt nur wenige gefühlvolle CDs und SERENADES´ "The Age of Purity" gehört dazu. Songs wie "Your winter Garden", "A voluptuous Grief" oder "Embrace" erreichen einen unbeschreiblich hohen Grad an Verzweiflung, Trauer, Atmosphäre und Dichte, wie es bisher nur ANATHEMA, MY DYING BRIDE und KATATONIA geschafft haben. Der Übersong auf "The Age of Purity" ist aber "In Remembrance", welcher quasi die Musikwerdung der Depression schlechthin darstellt. Man spürt richtig die Aussichtslosigkeit, die Trauer und den Seelenschmerz durch die Melodien. Für mich gibt es für solche Musik nur eine Erklärung: Entweder sind die Musiker extrem depressiv und suizidgefährdet oder einfach nur genial! Wie will man ansonsten diese düstere und tragische Stimmung auf einem solch hohen Level über das komplette Album hinweg halten? Wer auf atmosphärischen Doom Metal oder auf obengenannte Bands steht sollte sich "The Age of Purity" von SERENADES sofort zulegen, sofern er (oder sie) noch die Chance bekommt, dieses Meisterwerk der Trauer irgendwo zu ergattern!

Majestic sadness filled my heart as midnight struck the clock - And bowing down my weary head into the Nile I fall… :) Hee-hee! This CD brings us the aesthetics of a tired soul. Fatalism and submission, the tragedy of a broken flight, the substratum, that raised MY unbelievable DYING BRIDE, gave birth to yet another, no less optimistic, band: Serenades. Whatever they might say, but I am of the strong opinion that having a good blue, is equally nice as having a hell of a laugh. Slow and viscous melodies, withering voice, resounding and accurate beats: when you gotta go, you gotta go. To continue the comparison with the Brits, I would also like to point out the gothic inclination on "The Age of Purity" that is expressed with certain synthesizer passages and - let's face it - the Bride is heavier somewhat. The final of this dying goose is exactly what it should be - a swansong. :) (St.Ded)

Por una sobredosis de soledad yo caigo.... y la edad de la pureza por siempre morirá… Aaaaa el viejo y querido Doom/Death, con sus clichés y todo... Y aquí con nosotros con otro exponente desconocido q nos vuelve a sorprender, como aquella amante de años q siempre sabe como renovar el éxtasis. Este duo italiano logra con "The Age of Purity" un disco inesperadamente bello, lleno de grandes momentos y sobretodo rebosaste en pasión. Las referencias mas obvias serian el viejo Anathema o Cryptal Darkness a nivel vocal, con esa voz profunda tan clásica de aquellas épocas, y con algunos arrebatos podridones pero más bien en un segundo plano diría yo. Y musicalmente, una cruza entre Saturnus y Morphia pero con el agregado de unos teclados dramáticos y majestuosos q por momentos predominan hasta dejarnos la piel de gallina. Lo más llamativo de esta banda es q las voces pasan a un segundo plano, casi como acompañando y en cambio es la música la q canta, bella y pura como una diosa desnuda q todavía no conoce los placeres del pecado. Para su segundo y último disco "Ionia", optaron por abandonar los teclados y se pusieron a coquetear con un sonido similar al de "Discouraged Ones" de Katatonia o al "Angeldust" de On Thorns I Lay. Por favor, bajense esta gema llamada "The Age of Purity" y regocijense con lo viejo como si fuera nuevo y con lo puro como si fuera corrupto. Himnos: The Silent Beauty, Embrace, Your Winter Garden.
